2025's Tarot Card of The Year

Each year, tarot readers use numerology to find the collective anchor card for the year. We add up each digit of that year to decipher which cards will hold our collective energy. 2025 is a 9 year (2+0+2+5= 9). 9 is the penultimate part of a cycle. Numbers are a set of contractions and expansions and 9 energy is a contraction right before an expansion (10). You know that part in a movie right before an ending when the protagonist goes within themselves? In a romcom, it’s that rainy montage of the separated lovers due to their misunderstandings. In an action movie, it’s when our hero is hurt and we’re not sure if they can go on. In both of these scenarios, our main character musters up the courage to do the thing we knew they could do- if only they got out of their own way.

This is the energy we are heading into this year. Make sure you have your umbrella handy.

The major arcana card with 9 energy is The Hermit.

The Hermit arrives when it is time to shut out all the external noise and listen to your internal wisdom. In my yoga classes recently, I have been discussing the yogic principle of Pratyahara- or withdrawing of the senses. I also love the interpretation of withdraw of distractions. Practically, when in a yoga class, it is wise to keep your attention on your mat and your own body. Releasing a comparison mind or the laundry list mind is a wonderful practice in a class so we can be more present everywhere. This is the embodied wisdom of The Hermit. Bringing your attention within to gain the Strength (the card of 2023) to finish out this cycle.

Each of the suits explore this energy in their own unique way. This tarot deck that I co-created, Be With Your Body Tarot, reimagines traditional tarot through the therapeutic lens of being kind to yourself.

Nine of Feet (Pentacles) evokes a sense of gratitude. You worked hard for something and are now feeling the fruits of that labor. This card pictures both the roots and the flowers to convey a sense of time that you put into this venture. You may be celebrating (see Nine of Hips), but this is almost a quiet sense of appreciation. You aren’t quite done with this cycle- and yet you can see how far you’ve come.

Nine of Hips (Cups) is the most outward energy of all the nines, yet, the emotion is very much internal. You ever get a big piece of news that you just want to burst? Usually this is some sort of opportunity that will level you up. You haven’t hit the final boss yet, but you can see it coming. When reversed, this card nudges us that we might have overindulged in something. This is a very internal experience and sometimes one that asks us to make a different choice next time- brining a conclusion to this cycle and asking us to begin again.

Nine of Hands (Wands) is a licking of our wounds. More like the action hero before she gets ready for her final swing, this card is a sense of healing- physically and spiritually. It acknowledges how much we’ve been through and asks us to rest, even if just for a moment.

Nine of Eyes (Swords) shows up when we are deep in our own heads. Have you had a thought that activates your belly and keeps you from sleep? The problem seems to have no solution and your mind gnaws on it like a chew toy? Then you wake up the next day to realize that powerful thought was something you could wash away with your morning shower? This dark night of the soul is the exact internal experience that might lead you to fixating on overthinking (10 of Eyes), which will remind you of the power you have over your own mind and to shift your attention.

The 9 energy interestingly will be expressed in the astrology of this year.

All of the outer planets (planets that stay in the same sign for a year or longer) are changing signs. This rarely lines up that all of them change signs in the same year. (Well, Pluto technically changed signs at the end of this year, but close enough). Saturn (the planet of structure) and Neptune (the planet of dreams and spirituality) are both moving into Aries. Uranus (the planet of innovation and change) is moving into Gemini and Jupiter (the planet of expansion) is moving into Cancer. All of this will be happening in spring to early summer. BUT THEN they will all retrograde back into the signs they are currently in during autumn and then will finally land their planes in their new signs in early 2026. To me, this has 9 energy all over it! If you’re not picking up what I’m putting down- 9 energy is preparing for the end of a cycle- it goes within itself (retrogrades) to clear out pathways to move forward.

Once again, tarot and astrology since up like a harmony.

If you want to track the major transits this year- check out my 2025 wall calendar! I have it all mapped out for you 💫 Or my Astrology 101 class we will definitely be breaking all of these transits down as they are happening. Or- just stay tuned! I will be discussing them all year.

Would you like to know your tarot card of the year?

Yes, you have your very own card of the year! All you have to do is add each digit of your birth day, birth month and the current year. For example, my birthday is October 12th. I will add 1+0+1+2+2+0+2+5= 13. Since it’s a double digit, I will add each digit, getting 4. If your first addition is 22 or over, keep adding the digits until you get 21 or under. If you get a double digit under 21 (like me!), you get multiple cards!

Here are the numbers, their associated cards and what they mean:

1. The Magician. This is a year for you to recognize your inner magic. You are learning your resources and how to share that with the world.

Affirmation: I have all the tools inside of me to heal.

  1. The High Priestess. This year is all about trusting your intuition. Sometimes in the process of learning to trust yourself, you may ignore that wise voice inside of you. This is a learning opportunity to listen next time. The more you listen, the stronger your intuition will grow.

Affirmation: I trust what my body tells me.

  1. The Empress: This year is about listening to, nurturing and connecting to your body to foster creation. You may be feeling extra inspired this year to make, create, and heal.

Affirmation: I feel connected with the sensations of my body. This helps me to feel nourished on many levels.

  2. The Emperor: Structure and support are the name of the game for you this year. You might be adjusting your routine, getting more organized, or feeling the aid of your loved ones. By finding structure, you will feel safe to traverse deeper explorations of your heart.

Affirmation: I experience balance between my head and heart.

  3. The Hierophant: It might be time for a guide or spiritual teacher for you this year. You may be ready to investigate deeper into fulfilling knowledge and a way back to yourself. This also might be a year of self study.

Affirmation: I am open to learning form myself and others.

  4. The Lovers: This is your year of finding true love: with yourself. The funny thing is, when we are reminded of our own wholeness (the good and the tricky), we attract people who are doing the same work. Connect with your relationship with you and love will appear all around.

Affirmation: I connect with all aspects of myself

  5. The Chariot: It is time for you to focus. The Chariot reminds you to come back to your body and not get distracted by all the shiny things along your path. When you focus, you will drive towards your goals full steam ahead!

Affirmation: I steady and focus my breath and attention to slow come back to myself.

  6. Strength: This was the collective card for 2024 . Strength is our inner discernment of what feels uncomfortable versus what feels unsafe. Of course if something feels unsafe, we get out of that situation, but discomfort is where growth happens. This past year, you (and all of us!) were asked to dig deep and feel that difference.

Affirmation: I notice and sit with whatever emotions arise, allowing them to be as they are.

  7. The Hermit: This is a year to go within and listen to yourself. You may not be feeling as social these days. Take this time to tune into the wisdom of your body. If this is your card of the year for 2025, you are aligned with the collective.

Affirmation: I use discernment of when to retreat and when to rejoin the community.

  8. The Wheel of Fortune (also see The Magician): The things you think are “good luck” may not actually what you are looking for and what you think is “bad luck” might actually redirect you where you want to go. This year, don’t get caught up in the value of every little event, zoom out and the big picture will become very clear.

Affirmation: I am present with my current circumstances knowing the only constant is change.

  9. Justice (also see The High Priestess): You may notice this year how your actions affect your community and how your community’s actions affect you. Healing only for ourselves is a dead end. This year is about the interconnectedness of it all in the pursuit of balance.

Affirmation: I am a microcosm of the universe. By advocating for myself, I advocate for others and visa versa.

  10. The Hanged One (also see The Empress): You are in a space of in-between this year. We both get to choose how we react to not knowing the exact next steps. This is a year for building trust within ourselves.

Affirmation: Right now it’s like this. I am present with my current circumstances knowing they will change when the time is right.

  11. Death (also see The Emperor): This is the year of letting go. Notice what you are holding onto and see if that can be released. By doing this- that thing, idea, relationship, job, that what-have-you, will create space for something new to come in.

Affirmation: I honor and grieve what needs to be released.

  12. Temperance (also see The Hierophant): Balance is the name of the game for you this year! For most people, that means do a little less. You might notice that space you create will have some alchemy and will change into something new.

Affirmation: I continue to come back to a quiet place of contentment.

  13. The Devil (also see The Lovers): The Devil energy shows up any place we get stuck in cycles. Sometimes it’s addiction, sometimes shame, sometimes obsessive thinking. Notice what you are holding onto mentally or physically. The way out of The Devil energy is to name it and ask for support.

Affirmation: I acknowledge what keeps me trapped. I find the key by naming it and removing shame.

  14. The Tower (also see The Chariot): This is a year of big transition for you. The Tower clears away what you no longer need. It might have moments of stress and surrender, but use the focus and body connection to come back to yourself through the change.

Affirmation: I return to my breath when it feels like the world around me is crumbling.

  15. The Star (also see Strength): The Star year always comes after a Tower year. The Star is a reminder that you are supported. Not just by the universe, but by your community. I hope this year feels very aligned for you.

Affirmation: My experience gives me wisdom, and I trust that I am supported.

  16. The Moon (also see The Hermit): This year might feel a little foggy and be in the unknown. The work is to sit in that in-between space and know that clairty will happen when the time is right.

Affirmation: I can be with the unknown and allow things to be revealed in their own time.

  17. The Sun (also see The Wheel of Fortune + The Magician): I hope this is a lovely year for you! The Sun is a wonderful card that reminds you to find joy and pleasure in the little (and sometimes big!) areas of your life.

Affirmation: I feel the warmth in my system and trust I am just where I should be.

  18. Judgement (also see The High Priestess): This is a year of rebirth. You have been working towards big changes and you will feel that shift this year.

Affirmation: I notice how my efforts for growth have changed me

  19. The World (also see The Empress): You are completing a cycle this year. Something you have worked for is now coming to end, creating space for the next one. Take time this year to honor what you have created and hold space for the next level.

Affirmation: I notice, accept, and honor where I am on my journey.
